McIntosh Labs began it's research into loudspeaker design in 1967. After three years invested in Research and Development McIntosh released the ML-1C in 1970. It quickly became apparent that a quiet revolution in the art and science of speaker design had begun. McIntosh, known for it's legendary quality in electronic's and dedication to consistent performance standards, set out design goals for it's speaker division which would define for the world a new level of quality in the reproduction of sound. McIntosh is never content with the status quo, revolution becomes evolution, and as in all things McIntosh, simplicity and elegance are the hallmark of a McIntosh product. The Academy series continues this proud tradition.

As indicated above a more complete explanation of the extraordinary Academy series is now forthcoming. In the picture above you see the HT-5 used as front left, center, and right it can also be used as rear left and right, with the addition of the powered sub PS112 you have a complete system of speakers for the classic Home Theater. The same could be done with the in wall mount WS-320 and again the PS112 powered sub. McIntosh also makes a sub without an amplifier built in, model number HT-12. In fact this concept has been utilized in the design of all of the Academy Series Speakers. With the help of your local McIntosh Dealership this mix and match combination can be demonstrated and explained to it's complete potential.
